Beyond Hospital Transparency

A significant volume of new transparency data was released in 2022.  The North Carolina Business Group on Health, in partnership with the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions (National Alliance) held an employer roundtable on transparency tools in August, 2022.  (This was one of 4 such roundtables held nationwide.)   

At this roundtable, employers viewed information available in the new Sage Transparency Tool, a first-of-its-kind tool developed by the Employers’ Forum of Indiana that brings together public and proprietary data on hospital pricing and quality. This hospital value dashboard, gives users access to price and quality data for hospitals across North Carolina as well as thousands of others across the United States—and it’s free! Sage Transparency is an interactive, customizable dashboard which displays data from a variety of sources in an easy-to-understand way. 

As a next step for our employers to utilize this data, we are pleased to provide the below “Playbook” as well as hospital “Myths and Facts”, developed by the National Alliance, with support from Arnold Ventures.  We encourage employers to review these resources as we look forward to next steps.
