12:00 - 1:00 PM (ET) Wednesday, November 4, 2020

It is well known that diabetes has tremendous personal, clinical and economic costs. Diabetes is the largest and most expensive epidemic of our lifetimes with 30 million type-2 diabetics in the US spending $51 billion in diabetic medications and adding $404 billion total economic cost in the US. We have not seen success in changing the course of this disease and its impact on people and society with existing solutions. On November 4th at noon, join our panel of experts for a discussion about the ‘Future of Diabetes’ which will explore how a focus on Drivers of Health, Lifestyle Change and Provider Partnerships can have a sustainable, meaningful impact on this public health crisis.

Speakers for this session will include the following distinguished experts in the field:

Dr. John Lumpkin has an impressive career in the health care system – from practicing emergency medicine and teaching medical students, to leading improvements to programs dealing with emergency and bioterrorism preparedness, infectious disease prevention and control, immunization, supporting local health departments, and reducing childhood obesity. Dr. Lumpkin serves as President of the Blue Cross NC foundation, as well as Vice President of Drivers of Health Strategy.

Dr. Larry Wu is a family physician with 30 years in clinical practice and serves on NC Advisory Committees on Diabetes, and Minority Health and Disparities.  He maintains a part-time clinical practice at Urban Ministries of Wake Co, NC and Duke Family Medicine, where is also an Associate Clinical Consulting Professor.  Dr. Wu also provides clinical leadership for chronic disease, care management, employee health solutions, and prevention at Blue Cross of NC.
